2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

I chose International College of Hotel Management as my study abroad school which is located in Adelaide-the first biggest city in South Australia. The courses I took were BBHM102-Food and beverage service standards, BBHM103-Delivering guest service practicum, BBHM104-Room Division Service Standards, and BBHM105-Culinary techniques and standards. (二)課程學習

My favorite course is ‘delivering guest service practicum’. We utilized all of the knowledge and theory learned from food and beverage service standards course into practicum. For this course, we need to get the certificate of WEST level 1 and have several times to work at TIROS and Graduates restaurant. In addition, it is necessary to gain working experiences from Adelaide Convention Center. The courses focus on practical experiences as a server, we’ve got different positions in every shift at TIROS and Graduates restaurant, such as barista, food passers, hosts, bartenders, etc. We had to deal with all of the unexpectable situations and learn how to solve them by ourselves. I utilized what I had learned from food and beverage lesson and served the customers by following correct sequences to be a professional server. One of my favorite part is exceptional teamwork when we worked together as a big group, there were different personalities and opinions. However, poor communication would make the service process less smooth. Hence, having good communication skills is one of the key elements to build up good teamwork. This course boosted our personal growth. In the beginning, we were not familiar with everything, but we kept practicing and communicating to become more effective team. Furthermore, I enjoyed the working atmosphere between us, we helped each other as possible as we can. Even though we made mistakes sometimes, the teachers always encouraged us instead of blaming us. The courses not only made me realized the importance of teamwork but also strengthen my working abilities. From those working experiences, I learned that we not only need to concentrate on every detail but also let our guests feel that they are valued. It also developed my wine knowledge a lot so that I could answer the questions from the guests and helped me to feel comfortable as a food and beverage attendant during my placement. To sum up, the course is really impressive and supportive that I ever had.(330字)

(三)生活環境

ICHM is located in Adelaide, which is a quiet city, it’s not a big city but it can provide us with a comfortable and cozy environment. ICHM is not a big college because it shares the campus with Le Cordon Bleu and Tafe University, however, we only need to take 5 minutes’ walk from student accommodation which called Regency International House (RIH) to classrooms. It is convenient and amazing for students. RIH is lovely accommodation, there are four rooms for one person in one, we shared the kitchen and living room. RIH also provides three meals per day for students who are living there. There are a lot of different types of food we can enjoy during the staying period because one chef is from Singapore and the other is the local one. We can have Chinese, Indian, Thai, and even Aussie cuisine. Moreover, we can play basketball, tennis, and badminton on campus. Around RIH and campus, there are some stores, such as Asian supermarket, Hong Kong bakery, and Vietnamese restaurant. Also, there is a small shopping center, cinema, and gym which is 20 minutes away from RIH by walking. It is a good place to exercise and relax over there. On top of that, ICHM is 15 minutes away from the city center if we take the bus, and there is a bus station nearby campus. We can buy anything we want in the central of city, also, there are some beautiful beaches in the suburb of Adelaide. We usually had a picnic at the beach in our free time.(259字)

(四)自我成長

For this part, I think we must have some difficulty when we first arrived. For example, teachers usually encourage students to answer the questions and express our opinions in the courses. However, we are not quick enough to deal with those problems as same as local students. Due to the language barrier, it’s hard for me to describe what I really want to talk in English in the beginning. Also, in the culinary course, we had to remember a lot of culinary techniques terms which I never leaned before, and I felt stressed at that time. However, after few weeks, I improved a lot and not felt panic anymore. The teachers are really friendly and willing to help us. Furthermore, ICHM held many activities and events which are helpful to make new friends and gain knowledge. During my placement period, I felt nervous because being a food and beverage attendant at five-star hotel is my first job in my life, even in English environment. However, I gradually get used to it. My supervisors and collogues are really lovely and helpful. Even though I made some mistakes sometimes, they taught me again patiently and encouragingly. From the courses in ICHM and my placement, I realized that it is important to have the attitude of willing to learn. Although facing new challenges might be difficult in the beginning, I still was happy to learn with that because we might find out some new and interesting things from every task. In addition, willing to learn everything humbly and passionately is able to get unexpected gains.(263字)

(五)大三出國建議

For those students who want to study the hospitality industry, I highly recommended ICHM which is the best choice. The courses in ICHM are different from Taiwan, there are many practice sessions that you can acquire more experiences. We gained the knowledge through the food and beverage lecture and we utilized these within a practical course. I also suggested that you choose the course of culinary which is interesting. For example, we have learnt how to be a chef, the method of cooking, and the importance of teamwork. It is meaningful things that you cooked various cuisines with your bench partner through communicating and cooperating. Moreover, thanks to the culinary course, the connection among classmates became stronger than at first. Don’t feel panic when you first come to ICHM, you will learn everything from here. Also, choosing ICHM enables us to do six months of industry placement and it is a good opportunity to gain unique working experience overseas. In my opinion, it is a valuable chance to study abroad. I recommend that wherever you choose, you just try something new and cherish every opportunity to learn. It is important to keep studying hard as well as playing hard at the same time. You should go out and experience different cultures, eating exotic cuisine, making new friends, and traveling as much as you can. You will find out something fresh and make your own story, even get a significant achievement as well. When you look back on those memories, you will notice that they are the greatest part of your study abroad.(263字)
