2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

The school I applied for is Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management in Dubai. I took a total of five courses, namely leadership, beginners French, housekeeping operations, front office operations and career development. After staying in Dubai for four months, I took an internship at a desert resort in the capital Abu Dhabi for about three months.(56字)

(二)課程學習

Of all the courses, my favorite is housekeeping operation because this course took us to visit many hotels in Dubai, including the more well-known Burj Al Arab Jumeirah and Atlantis The Palm, others like visiting the Central Laundry Factory of Jumeirah Group. Because the school related personnel led us get in, what we saw was not the same as the ordinary tourists, we went to the back office and visited the housekeeping department of each hotel. The hotel staff introduced us to their daily work items and content, supplements placement area, and some special services. What impressed me the most is the back office of Burj Al Arab Hotel. Everything for guests to use is really advanced, such as shampoo and shower in the bathroom of the room. They also have a special room dedicated to put fresh flowers, which will purchase new flowers every day, and there are a variety of different color flowers, just like a small flower shop, the temperature of the room is also controlled to maintain the freshness of the flowers. I remember that the one who took us to visit that day was the head of the housekeeping department, she is an Oriental and I can feel her ability from her conversation. We also visited the standard rooms and presidential suites of each hotel, every time when we entering the VIP room, everyone's mouth could not close, all of us kept yelling and took pictures and videos with our mobile phones, some rooms are bigger than my whole house, that’s really amazing. In addition to the field trip, this course also arranged for us to actually experience the work of housekeeping. We divided into several groups and follow the housekeeping staff who cleaned the room of the school to learn how to make a bed and wash the toilet. This is really a good experience.(312字)

(三)生活環境

The dorms in our school are single rooms, each student has his own bathroom and kitchen, but the disadvantage is that the dormitory adopts the induction door system like the hotel, so some students often forget to bring the door card and lock themselves outside the room. They must go to the guard room at the entrance of the school and ask them to help open the door. That’s a little trouble, I have encountered it twice. Because the location of the school is a little away from the city and there are not many shops around, every weekend I will take a taxi with my classmates to the nearest mall to have dinner and then go to the supermarket, this is our fixed schedule every week. Sometimes we also take a ride to a farther place for trip, because we always go together, it can not only share the fare but also be more safe. The local weather in Dubai is as hot as everyone knows, especially when we first arrived there was summer, but I don’t think the weather there makes me uncomfortable because thought weather is hot but the air is dry, not very humid like Taiwan, and the air conditioning indoor is very strong, which is a great point. I still remember on the first day of school, the teacher told us not to turn off the air conditioning in the room at any time, which is not possible in Taiwan, that’s crazy right? After living in Dubai for a while, I came to the conclusion that Dubai’s prices are too high, Taiwan won at this point.(275字)

(四)自我成長

During the time I went abroad, I think that what made me grow the most was during my internship. I chose Al Wathba in Abu Dhabi for my internship and worked in food and beverage department. Al Wathba is a resort in the middle of the desert, there are six restaurants in the hotel, the one I worked in is named Bait Al Hanine, which is the only one all day dining restaurant in the hotel. For me, the most difficult thing is not to stand nine hours a day or hold heavy plates, but always bring a big smile no matter what the situation is, my mood is bad or i’m uncomfortable. But this is the purpose of the service industry, and also what I must know clearly. Before that I had no experience working in a restaurant, so I have to learn many things. I was not used to it at the beginning, and I often didn’t know what to do. Fortunately, my colleagues were very nice, they told me all their knowledge, including very small details, and also shared many experiences from their career. They always encourage me to ask questions if I don’t understand anything, because of them, the whole working atmosphere became very happy. Whenever I make a mistake, they will not blame me, but instead tell me to learn from it and also care about my emotions. It is interesting that our guests have many nationalities from all over the world, so we can see the dining etiquette of different cultures. The most shocking thing is “eat by hand”. People from India or some Middle East regions do not have the habit of using tableware. When they finished the meal, the whole table was messy, covered with scattered rice and vegetable dregs, and some of these would fall on the chairs and the floor, which was the most headache scene for restaurant employees. I am really grateful for this opportunity to go abroad for an internship. The experience I learned there and the people I met are very valuable and not easy to be measured by money and I became more confident during the process. This is really an awesome memory! (370字)

(五)大三出國建議

EAHM is a very good hotel management school, you can learn a lot of relevant knowledge, know many students from different countries, and the professors are all very nice, the dormitory is also excellent. But the disadvantage is that Dubai’s prices are high and the weather is very hot, the most common thing there is shopping mall. Honestly, after staying there for a long time, I feel a little bored. Dubai is a good choice for those who want to go abroad for an internship, because you don’t need to go out and find a job by yourself, the school promises to help you get a job, but it is more regrettable that the decision-making power depends on the company, so you may not be able to work where you really want to go, sometimes the company will only need one intern, in spite of that, I still encourage everyone to work hard and strive for the company of dreams. For me, the months of internship abroad were very precious and well worth it, if it’s not because of the epidemic, I think I shouldn’t choose to return home early, this is really a great experience and memory, so I highly recommend you guys to attempt. But one thing must be noted, don’t think Dubai is a desert country so it’s hot all year round, the temperature difference between day and night in the desert is very big. The winter there is also very cold, it is not enough to put on a sweater, taking me as an example, I didn’t bring any long-sleeved clothes or jackets, which drives me crazy. It is recommended that you bring some thin coats and warm clothes in addition to summer clothes.(295字)

(六)其他

During my internship, what impressed me the most was that on the sixth day of work, I spilled hot coffee on the guests. At the moment, I was very panic and wanted to find a hole to get in, but at the same time I also saw how professional colleagues helped me to handle everything perfectly. After that, this incident caused me to be terrified when I saw hot coffee. To help me overcome my psychological fear, as long as a customer ordered hot coffee, my colleagues would ask me to serve it. It's worth being happy that after working for a month, I can already serve hot coffee to the guests very skillfully! (114字)
