2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

The school I chose for study abroad was Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM) which is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I stayed in Dubai from 2019/09/06 to 2020/03/19. The courses I had in Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management was Front Office Operations, Housekeeping Operations, Beginner's French, English Composition and Rhetoric, Career Development and Industry Presentations.(55字)

Speaking of my favorite class, Housekeeping Operations comes to my mind. My teacher in this course was Ms. Heggie who is from Norway. She has blonde hair and beautiful accent, and I think she is nice because she has a good temper. Housekeeping is an important department in every hotel, and the reason that I want to take housekeeping course is because I want to know more about the details of Housekeeping. In the class, I have already learned the housekeeping department in lodging operations, the executive housekeeper as department manager, design of the housekeeping operations, planning housekeeping operations, hotel room design, housekeeping inventories, personnel administration, controlling operations, standard contents of a guestroom and so on. Not only in the class, I also learned a lot in the site visit and practical experience and training. The first site visit, we went to Renaissance Downtown Hotel. Ms. Heggie took us the housekeeping office and introduce what should housekeeping staffs need to do every day and where the product they stock. Then, she took us to see some types of rooms. This is my first time to see the president room and vice president room in a hotel, so I was excited that day. The second site visit, we went to Burj Al Arab. This is the place I am most looking forward to visit because Burj Al Arab is the most famous hotel in the world. When I arrived the hotel entrance and went into the lobby, it was so amazing. When we went inside the president room, everyone was surprised and screamed. It was extremely big and luxurious. It was the most luxurious room that I have ever seen. The third site visit, we went to Atlantis Hotel which is on the Palm island. It looked very huge, and there are nearly 1500 rooms inside. The manager also took us to see some rooms, the rooms type there is modern style. The style was different from Burj Al Arab. The site visit let me saw many types of rooms and know the housekeeping operation in every hotel. They were all special experience in my life. About the practical experience and training, everyone all has three times training. When I did the first training, I felt fresh. The staff taught us how to clean the room correctly step by step. After this three-time training, I can clean the room easily and quickly. I think a really learned a lot in Housekeeping Operations. (410字)

(三)生活環境

Although our campus was not huge, but I like our dormitory. Everyone lives in a single room with kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen is equipped with refrigerator, oven, induction cooker, extractor fan, spatula, dishes, cups, cutlery, hot water bottle and toaster. In addition, there are TVs, safes, irons, etc. in the room. This perfect dormitory makes me feel comfortable and convenient, and I felt like I was at home in those days. The weather in Dubai was extremely hot. When I arrived in Dubai last September, it was about 42 degrees Celsius. The air temperature made me feel like I was in an oven. However, it was getting very cold in winter. Although the temperature changed greatly, local Arabian still wear their traditional costumes which called Abaya and Kandura. The costume can cover the head and the whole body, and I also bought one to wear. About food in Dubai, to be honest, there are fewer delicious food than Taiwan. However, I still had two favorite restaurants in Dubai. One is Eat & Drink Restaurant which sold Indian food. I really love Indian food and the food in this restaurant was amazing. The other one is Falla Restaurant. The burger in this restaurant was the best burger I have ever had. If I have a chance to go to Dubai again in the future, I will definitely go back to these two restaurants. As for traffic, we usually took metro, bus, and taxi. It was convenient in Dubai, but compared with Taiwan, the transportation in Taiwan is more convenient than Dubai. (259字)

(四)自我成長

During my internship, I encountered some difficulties. In the first week of my internship, I was physically and mentally exhausted and under tremendous pressure. I often wanted to go back to Taiwan, but I knew that the training during this period will make me grow a lot, so I must bear with it. I worked as a waitress in Nomad restaurant at Jumeirah Creekside Hotel. I took order, collected payment, delivered meals, wiped tables, folded napkins, wiped dishes and cutlery every day. These jobs seem simple, but when we work abroad it is difficult. Because people here are from all over the world, everyone had different languages, religions, accents, and cultures, so I always got in touch with different people and things during work. I was glad that I had a manager, a supervisor, and colleagues who were passionate about teaching me. Although I sometimes made mistakes on work, they still taught me patiently and didn’t give up on me. Thanks for their teaching, I had more confidence and courage to face every guest and problem. Because of the COVID-19, there were fewer guests in the restaurant, but it also made me have more time to learn new things. During this period of work, my mood changed from stress to a sense of accomplishment. I thought every day was a new a new challenge for me. Since COVID-19 was getting more and more serious, we were forced to end our internship and go back to Taiwan as soon as possible. I felt very sad because of this, because I had only been working for more than a month. At that time, I just became acquainted with my colleagues, and I became more and more skilled and confident in various jobs, but unfortunately, I must end my internship owing to COVID-19. However, the precious experience I had in Jumeirah Creekside Hotel will be an unforgettable memory in my mind. I will apply all the things I learned during this period to my work in the future. (五)大三出國建議

For those who want to study in Dubai, it is a good choice. The reason I chose Dubai was because I thought Dubai is an international city. Compared to other countries, we can see more different things in Dubai, including culture, religion, language, etc. One of the reasons was because I also had a lot of curiosity about the trade in the Middle East, so I chose Dubai to demystify the Middle East and broaden my horizon. In addition, I recommend sophomores who want to improve their English ability take English Composition and Rhetoric course (ENGL102) in EAHM. ENGL102 is an interesting and helpful course in EAHM. Different from other courses, there are some benefits that I gained in this course. First, I think that taking ENGL102 improved my writing skills. Since we needed to write an essay every week, we practiced a lot on writing. After Ms. Donna modified my essay every time, I reworded it. Therefore, I learned how to write more professionally. Second, this course improved my presentation skills a lot. After we wrote our essays, we needed to present them to everyone. English speaking is important, but I do not think that I’m good at English speaking. During this course, I found that I can speak more fluently in English. Last but not least, this course made me have more courage to speak in front of people, not only in class, but also with foreigners. I gained more confidence to speak English without being afraid to use wrong grammar and vocabulary. And now I am more relaxed than before while speaking. To sum up, there are many advantages in taking ENGL102. I think it not only improved our writing and speaking skills but also made us more confident to speak English in front of people. Moreover, when we have enough confidence, we have more courage to explore the world. (314字)
