(一)基本資料

I study in Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, located in Lublin, and It is the largest comprehensive public university in eastern Poland, only two hours' drive from the capital Warsaw, Lublin are not many tourists, so you will feel comfortable walking around. It is a very lovely small city. (48字)

(二)課程學習

The teachers in the school are very patient. I recommended to choose as many courses as possible at the beginning, especially in the first semester. Because you are an international student, you must contact the teacher personally and tell them that you will take this class. After approval, you must confirm the class time, because some courses are held every two weeks, so you must keep asking about this. And the course is very interesting because the students in the class come from all over the world. You can communicate with classmates from different countries, and more courses are focused on discussions and reports, you have to hand in an assignment almost every week, and you also need to hand in a report in the middle and at the end of the term, or you will need to report it orally. Foreign students have the courage to publish in class, unlike Taiwan's class method. This difference is quite big. Polish courses are very practical and I strongly recommend that they must be taken. It is much more convenient to use Polish in daily life, and the clerk at the local supermarket may not speak English, so I think it is necessary to learn a little Polish. (206字)

(三)生活環境

【照片說明:My room】

The school has convenient transportation, as long as you take the Tram, which is the light rail, you can reach the school. The dormitory for exchange students is near the school. At the beginning, I felt a bit far away from class, because the various faculty halls are located in every corner of the city. Lublin is not a big city, there is only one main shopping street, and supermarkets for grocery shopping are everywhere. So it is easy to buy daily necessities, but pay attention to business hours, stores in Europe usually close after 7 o'clock in the evening, and shops are not open on Sundays. If you want to buy electrical appliances, clothes, or some luxury goods, you can find them in major shopping malls, such as Plaza and VIVO, and online shopping is also convenient, so there is no need to worry. The dormitory environment is pretty good. There are several types of rooms, single rooms, double rooms, and I live in Femina, usually with a small kitchen and bathroom. If you and your roommate have similar living habits, this type of room is the best. The food is very simple, the dormitories are equipped with kitchens, electric stoves and refrigerators. You just need to buy ingredients and cook for yourself. The main supermarkets are Biedronka and Żabka, and the larger ones are Lidl and TESCO. Please be reminded that there are no meat slices there! Basically, you will see discounts or promotional items when you visit the supermarket, and sometimes save a lot of money. There is also a small Chinese market in Lublin, where you can find some spices, sauces, etc. If you eat out, the cost will be much higher, but it is not particularly expensive. A meal ranges from 30 to 50 złoty per person, which is similar to what we consume in Taiwan. In terms of weather, it is not hot and humid, and the scenery of snow in winter is beautiful. You can also go skiing in winter, a very challenging sport, you must try it. And after snowing, you can see the scenery that Taiwan can't see, which is really memorable.(359字)

(四)自我成長

In the first semester, I couldn't adapt well. I remember I lost my luggage at Warsaw Airport. When the staff at the counter told me that it might not be possible to get it back, I was very upset, but luckily I finally got my luggage back. In the first few months, I deeply experience many cultural differences, every day was full of tests. I looked at the documents in English and Polish by myself, and study step by step. Before here, I thought the school would help foreign students take care of everything, but the fact is that many things have to be handled by yourself, you have to apply for phone numbers, bank accounts, and misunderstandings and wrongdoing are common things. Many times I feel lonely and helpless. In this city, I have lost, regretted, and questioned whether I made the wrong decision, but after gradually understanding this place, I took an open heart to recognize and accept this new culture. (五)大三出國建議

There will be many other activities in UMCS, various parties, such as dinner parties where students from various countries cook dishes and entertain others, and there will also be language exchange activities every week, such as playing pool, board games, or going to Nightclub dancing and so on. Participate in more parties to get to know more different nationalities or local students, which is very lively and diverse. But parties are usually drinking and partying, or talking loudly with people from other countries, which is a very special experience. One of the most interesting discoveries in my exchange is that, despite arriving in a completely unfamiliar foreign country, people's stereotypes are still the first tool we use to understand the world. I always hear someone say to me: "I think Asian girls are..." or "You are completely different from the Taiwanese girls I imagined." Or I often say these things in the process of chatting. We keep copying our stereotypes about the world, so as to reduce our sense of panic when we know the new world, and generalize all the people, when we repeat our prejudices, we give up the opportunity to understand others. As an exchange student, I think one of the most precious things is that we are given an opportunity to open up, refute or prove our past imagination of the world. So I always try different activities to understand the diversity of the world, which is a fascinating thing. The choice of being an exchange student gives me the opportunity to leave Taiwan and fly to the other side of the world to live for a period of time, experience novelties that I have never experienced, and understand how do young people in foreign countries think about the future? What makes us different? Don’t waste these opportunities, don’t stay in your own stratosphere. This is the most important that I want to tell all students who are about to go abroad to experience a new life. Take part in more activities and cherish every person you meet. (344字)

(六)其他

In the past year, what impressed me most is that in the process of traveling, I saw the difference between the rich and the poor in some countries, and the relative development of other countries. I saw many monuments, as early as hundreds or even thousands of years ago, they built magnificent and majestic buildings like supernatural craftsmanship, or magnificent castles, palaces, churches, and carved on the walls or rock walls. That was everything I read in the history textbook when I was a kid, but now it is where I stand on my feet. The kind of touch in my heart is beyond words. When traveling, I also visited many natural landscapes, such as forests and fjords in Norway. Before, I never thought that I would have the opportunity to visit these famous attractions. When I saw it with my own eyes, my heart was full of incomparable throbbing. When taking foreign transportation, I often wonder why there is no ticket checking machine and only the entrance for ticket printing. It is all based on the honesty of everyone to buy tickets, which is not available in Taiwan. On the other hand, what impressed me was how people get along. What you rely on in a foreign country is your friends, and you must maintain good interaction and relationships with your friends. Especially when traveling, we must help each other out. What I have gained from traveling is my mental growth. Everyone has different attitudes towards the same thing, and the result is also different. Obviously, I still have a lot to hone in this regard. And the biggest gain from traveling is to see how others deal with the difficulties encountered during the trip, so that every trip can be completed happily and successfully. All in all, I am really grateful for such a beautiful thing to happen in my life. I also thank my roommates, friends, travel companions, all the precious people who have been with me day and night in the past few months. Of course, I am most grateful to my family for supporting me in completing this project. I visited 10 countries in total. Although the second semester was due to the coronavirus, many projects had to end. To be honest, I was really sad, but there is still a long way to go in life, I will turn this regret into a goal for future efforts. If you ask me if it is worth it? I will say that I am very happy that I have such a year of valuable experience.(428字)
