2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

I was studying at Cal State University Long Beach at Long Beach, California. One semester studied at ALI(America Language Institute) level 3, another semester studied at the regular program. I chose surfing class, surfing “culture" class, video filming class, karate class, and international studies.(44字)

(二)課程學習

Among the classes that I took, surfing class and surfing culture class are my most favorite two. It got me a chance to know people who live with surfer lifestyle and their perspective on things that we’ve been dealing with every day. It took me away from the city lifestyle, which I was growing up with. In surfing culture class, I’ve learned that Hawaiian’s social status is judged by their surfing skill on the surfboard, which is a mind-bomb to me, I couldn’t imagine people just do what they want to do and what they like to do most and do just a limited amount of work to support their livings. (三)生活環境

I was living in Santa Fe Spring, where I got to drive 30 minutes to the school every day in the morning, it takes longer when its traffic, which is pretty much happening all the time. With my car, I was able to explore many places that I wouldn’t go if I don’t have a car. I also got a longboard and a skateboard, which became my transportation tool on the street. From ghetto to ghetto, to backyard to yard, I’ve pinned all these places on my google maps, and if you want I can share with you, it shows where the good stuff is. In South Cali, eating outside every day can be a really big amount of expense, even if you cook by yourself it can still cost you a lot unless you know the drill. For grocery stores, you can go to Target, Walmart, Trader Joe’s, 99 Ranch Market, Ralphs, Vons, Grocery Outlet, and Mitsuwa. These stores all have different advantages, you can go 99 Ranch Market to get Chinese food ingredients, Mitsuwa to get Japanese food ingredients, etc. As for school, the campus is quite big, it saved your time by cruising with a board, especially your classes are all over the campus. CSULB has many restaurants on the campus, but it’s better to just bring your lunch to school, the foods on the campus were not cheap, a sandwich cost 4 dollars. Also, the school has provided many facilities for students like billiards, bowling, swimming pools, and the students can have a very cheap price to enjoy these services. (265字)

(四)自我成長

I went through a difficult time due to my financial problems, big time. It was only 5 dollars left in my pocket at the time, and I didn't realize how big mess I made until it left only 5 dollars in my bank account and I figured holy cow I can’t tell my parents. So I start to ask for help, try to fix my own mess. I've asked for help from all the resources that I’ve been given at the beginning of the semester, and I couldn’t get a part-time job because I was at ALI at the time, which means I can’t even work on campus. I contact my study aboard assistant and she simply just tell me that there is nothing they can do. I was so depressed and struggle every day, have to earn some money from my classmate by driving so I have food this week. The situation lasts only one month because I don’t have enough money to pay the rent for the next month. I call my roommate Bet, who has already been my roommate with me for 4 years, having dinner with my family every Lunar New Year eve since we met, to see if he can lend me some cash so I can pay the rent. Then the problem solved, but it’s temporary, I’ll still not able to pay the rent next time if I can’t find a job. On Thanksgiving Eve, I was invited to have dinner with my skate friends in his house. He is the guy on the left of this photo, around 50 years old Puerto Rican-American, named Julio. He helped me through my financial problem, unfortunately, I can’t tell the detail, it’s better not to leave a record here. Eventually, I’ve become a very close friend to his family and we still have meetings on-line twice a week. (319字)

(五)大三出國建議

If you’re going to live outside the campus and have a car, here are some tips for you to know: 1. Carry your license and insurance paperwork all the time If you don’t have those two with you, they can put you in jail. 2. Make sure you park at the right place and the regulation of the spot I got a total of 240 USD fines for parking, 180 USD for parking overtime, and 60 USD for parking at the wrong place on campus which my parking permit wasn’t included. Besides that, don’t be afraid to get into trouble, that’s the fastest way to grow and learn. Come ask me more and I’ll be more than happy to share with you :D(124字)
