(二)課程學習

Woodworking definitely would be my favorite class in U.S. Although I’m not an art major student, I’m so glad that I didn’t choose wrongly. As an English major student, I didn’t expect I can get any chances to involve this new skill in the future. Basically, there’s no too much lecture but plenty of manual techniques in the class. Our professor is an young intellectual female who has lots of enthusiasm and kind to students, and she always treat us as friend as well. Even there are two three hours classes in one week which I thought I would be pretty tired. In fact, I was extremely enjoy doing the works in the studio room. I even spend more time in the studio room which isn’t in the class time. My classmates are all really hilarious and nice to me. In the begging of the class, I had lots of curious about how to make my own sketch form. Because my classmates are all art major that this is really common steps before they do their works. But they gave me lots of assistance and motivation to finish my masterpiece. When I was doing my woodworking, I felt not only so focused but also so peace and calm. Honestly, I think this class can release my stress as well. Because when I was focusing on my work, I suddenly forgot those things that make me depressed. Interesting, I just realize I’m a person who is acute and without any patience. If you wanted to make your work more faster, the best way is to do it slowly and give them time. To enjoy every moment with woods and gave yourself reflection during the working time could be a wonderful process to done with your masterpiece. These are what I learn in the class. This is my pleasure to having woodworking class in U.S. Hope I can find a way to learn woodwork in the future. Especially in this Corona pandemic, doing wood working might be a nice choice.(347字)

(三)生活環境

IUP is placed in the East side of United States. Basically there are only two seasons in Indiana town which are summer and winter. I like the weather in summer here. It is totally different to compare with the weather in Taiwan. Because of the arid weather feature, I couldn’t get used of it, I even went to the university clinic twice in one season because of the allergy condition. International students live in the school dormitory for mandatory. This is the wonderful chance to make new friends from other countries. They gathered all of the international students in the same building which is quit nice. Some people will say that to hanging out with Taiwanese students all the time wouldn’t give any helps. But I think it all depends on the person. As me, I would like to know new friends not only foreigners but also Taiwanese. I really like to enjoy sharing our country to my foreign friends. Interestingly, I just realize how funny to compare the culture difference. Sometimes it really opened my eyes. Anyway, I really missed those good time that I spend with my friends in U.S.(195字)

(四)自我成長

I was so worried about to face the racial discrimination before I went to U.S. But actually that is not that scary after I experienced several times. Basically if they don’t do any exact behaviors that offend me. I will just ignored them or try to communicate with them. Sometimes they just don’t know about a person who is difference with them. That is why education exist. I was so shocked that one of my American friend said half of the American don’t get the education about to respect every single person who comes from different countries. But there’s an experience happened while I was traveling in Philly. I had a deep chat with the Uber driver about racial discrimination. He said that “discrimination happened in the whole world. If you feel you are better than others, then you are racist. You can be racist but don’t fake it. No wonder people will mentioned about American smile as specific topic. I can understand them. That is just the difference between how our county raised us up. Just at least shows some respect. The world will be more peaceful. Before the Coronavirus happened, I already experienced the mask issue. Because of my running nose, I always wear a mask to avoid the dusty and cold air. But in U.S, people wear mask because they got serious disease could infect to others or you are going to rob a bank. I feel so weird to wear a mask walking in the campus. Because everyone looks at me in a weird way which makes me pretty uncomfortable. After the Coronavirus accident, I just realize that is because of our different education. We were educated that to wear mask to protect ourselves and others. This experience might change how they treat people wearing mask in the future I guess.(312字)

(五)大三出國建議

Just don’t freak out! You will do it really well. Enjoy your study abroad life. Don’t bring too much stuff before you go study abroad. Because you definitely will buy lots of things in here. Then packing will be the most annoying time. You better brings some clothes that you will gonna throws them away soon. If you are not a big fan of American foods. Easy cooker will be the best choice. As my experience, I think trousers are the most hard outfit to buy in Western countries. Our figure are naturally difference with Western people that its quit hard to find a suitable pants. I highly recommend you to brings enough pants. If you are a person who always get sick, please take care of yourself and brings enough medicines just in case. If you are planing to travel around, please make sure you prepared enough while you travel. Again, don’t bring too much stuff with you. Vacations will be the best timing for crazy shopping. (171字)
