2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

The school which I studied abroad is Temple university. It located at Philadelphia and it is the biggest university in the city. Philadelphia is a city that full of history of the United States. When I studied there, I enrolled some classes that popular in the school. Glass blowing is one of the favorite classes that many students enjoy it. In addition, I would like to improve my writing skill much better; therefore, I enrolled a writing class to success my goal. During the time that I lived in Philly, I lived in off-campus apartment with my friend. It is a studio for three people. The other roommate is a Vietnamese girl which also studied in Temple university.(118字)

(二)課程學習

My favorite course is Glass Blowing which is taught by Victoria Ahmadizadeh, and she is the best instructor that I have ever met. The reason that I chose it is that I like glassware. The cups, plates and bowls made by glass are so pretty. Moreover, I heard the information by chance from a friend who I knew in Temple recommended me to enroll this class. I was so excited when I took the first class in spring semester. Victoria is so talented and patient when teaching us how to do the project. She is working on glass art for over 15 years. In order to split the class into two, there were two instructors teaching glassblowing. I felt so lucky that I can be her student for a semester. The making process divided into two parts. We will do our projects in Hot shop and cold shop. In the Hot shop, we used some major tools such as punty rod, jacks, diamond shear, blowpipes, tweezers, marver, bench, blocks, paddles etc., for making our projects. Unfortunately, due to the covid-19 situation, we did not get the chance to do our works in the cold shop. When we were doing our project in the hot shop, there are some rules we must follow. First, we cannot wear leggings or yoga pants in the hot shop because these pants are made by polyester. This kind of technological fiber will probably be melted by glass and furnace due to extremely high temperature. Second, we should always remember to wear the safety glasses in the studio. If the gathered glass be broken, the safety glasses can protect our eyes. Third, teamwork. We aren’t able to do the work by ourselves. Therefore, we usually have one or two partners besides us. One for blowing the bubble, and the other for paddling our right arm. There is a point that we need to keep in mind is that make a sound when we are passing behind others. That’s all the important point that the glassblowing beginners supposed to know.(344字)

(三)生活環境

When it comes to Philadelphia, we will make a connection to Liberty Bell. It is such a symbol which represents the spirit and core value of Philadelphia. It not only a symbol to Philly but also a part of history of the United States. There is also a spirit person of founding the city- Benjamin Franklin. We can see that people built so many building to memorize him. Moreover, we can see his statue in front of city hall. At the beginning of arriving at Philly, me and my best friend walked around the city to feel the atmosphere and know much more about it. when walking along the cobblestone streets of Philadelphia's Old City neighborhood, we are truly walking the same streets as the city’s favorite founding father. Franklins abound in this small community on the eastern edge of Center City, which is home to Independence Hall, The Liberty Bell and Benjamin Franklin’s final resting place, and James Peniston’s Keys to Community, which can be seen next to the fire station at 4th Street and Arch Street, is one of people’s favorites. Therefore, when we walked through the center city, we felt that it is a city which full of history. The place I love the most is our campus. According to the data of IELP, they told us that Temple is the biggest university in the Philadelphia. Approximately 40,000 students in the campus. Due to the huge number of students, Temple considers campus safety as the first position so we always notice Temple police and safety guards walking around all the buildings of the campus. In addition, our campus is so beautiful and clean. They offered students so many sources that help us to stay well and study well. Because there are lots of international students in Temple, the instructors and staff give us a lot of assistances to help us resolve the problem. This behavior makes me feel warm and tolerance. Although we are far away from our home country, we still feel good in a foreign land. Temple is a campus which full of love and respect. They care about every student. It is not only instructors give students a lot of respect also students themselves. I really appreciated the friends that I met and the people who helped me before when struggling at something. I have my best time in Temple.(399字)

(四)自我成長

Perhaps the most nervous part of the class for me is that all the students are so enthusiastic to express their opinions. Because the students listen to the class in Taiwan, they will not ask the professor questions. However, the learning environment in the United States is totally different, and everyone actively shared their opinions. In their culture, personal opinions are very valuable. Plagiarism is the most serious problem in academia. In addition, I think the most difficult thing is not listen to the lecture, but to communicate with the students in private. Because the conversation between the students is very colloquial, we usually use academic words during the class. Furthermore, how to make friends with foreign students is another challenge for me. Always remember be open-minded and be respect to everyone. Learning accept different cultures and customs is an important point when we are studying abroad. I believe that most of students supposed to face roommate’s problem. How to negotiate with the roommates and live well with them are another part of living experience. For example, I lived with two roommates in a unit. We shared the living room and kitchen together. However, the third roommate always not do the dishes after she used the kitchen, and she also didn’t clean the living room, either. What’s more, she stayed up so late that she usually makes some noise after 11 p.m.. Because I thought that these issues made me feel annoyed and offended, I tried to talk with her about these kinds of problem. Fortunately, we had a deal that make each other more comfortable. (269字)

(五)大三出國建議

I think studying abroad is not just study well in class, but also living a good life. Dealing with difficulties in life independently will be the most important part. In the United States, it is not the same as in Taiwan. Every city in the US is bigger than a city in Taiwan. In such a big city, there are all kinds of people. No matter what you do, you should be more proactive and cautious on your own things, because no one will help you at first unless you help yourself first. If there is a problem with study, please go to the relevant departments or the International Student Affairs Center. They will all be very enthusiastic about helping the difficulties of international students, because they are the department that established for this purpose. As for life, it is normal to be unfamiliar with everything at first. If you make a mistake once, it is better not to go wrong next time because you have already understood how to do it. Don't be panic when you are in trouble, it's important to prove that whether it is true or not. Find the answer by yourself or ask for someone who can trust such as ISSS. There will be a transition period at the beginning of living in foreign countries. When you cross the most difficult time, it is definitely a great memory and experience of your own. I believe that everyone will has a great time away from home and it will be the most precious year.(258字)
