2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

I am Wei-Lin Tang. I was staying in Brisbane and studying at University of Queensland during 07/2019 - 03/2020. Because my IELTS is below 6.5, I studied BEP for 6 months. After that, I passed BEP and got IELTS 6.5, so I started the courses for 3 weeks. However, because of COVID-19, I withdraw my whole courses and backed to Taiwan.(55字)

My favorite class is BEP. In the last 10 weeks of class, Teacher Matt and Teacher Nat worked hard to improve my listening, speaking, reading and writing. And from this long 25 weeks, my English has improved a lot. During the course, I gradually noticed that the English grammar used in Taiwan was often wrong. Also gradually improved in the teaching of these teachers, and learned many essences. I think BEP was very troublesome at first, and I feel very tired when I think of writing a short essay every week. But after getting familiar with it, I was able to finish an essay quickly. This was the most pleasant surprise to me at that time. I felt that I was improving. Grammar and ideas can be organized quickly, and the most important thing is that typos can be minimized. After this, I think the most fulfilling thing was that I signed up for IELTS test. I was very nervous at the moment and doubt that IELTS will not be good. However, my English has greatly increased since the scores were achieved, and even reached the UQ English entry threshold. In general, although my English was not very good when I first arrived in Australia, I could only communicate simply. However, the BEP course is very comprehensive, you can have a one-on-one meeting with the teacher, or make a mock speech with the other two students. Teachers in writing and listening also gave us very complete suggestions for us to improve, which is a very useful course. During these 25 weeks, I really felt the progress of English, which was the biggest gain for me when I came to the University of Queensland.(280字)

(三)生活環境

When I was in Brisbane, I lived in Sunnybank in the southern part. It is very convenient there. Supermarkets, Asian supermarkets, Korean supermarkets, Asian restaurants, and even unforgettable beverage stores are in this area. Prices are also much cheaper than in other regions. In terms of transportation, there is also a bus that goes directly to the University of Queensland, and most of the buses here can lead to the urban area. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the train station, and the train can take the Gold Coast or the airport. However, I recommend taking DIDI or UBER to the airport is faster and cheaper. The disadvantage here is that there are more Asians, especially Chinese (and many Koreans). In addition, it takes about half an hour to get to the main place by car. Sometimes, it's really far. However, the climate here is very dry. It was winter when I went in July. The dry season here is very dry, so my lips are easily cracked, and my cheeks were peeling when I first came. It started to get hot in November and it started to rain very often in February. Brisbane is hotter in the summer than in the south, so it is called the “sunshine state”. So sunglasses and sun protection are the most basic, but most of the time I stay indoors to turn on the air conditioner. In addition, I live in a shared house, so we have to maintain the environment together. Fortunately, I know the landlord, and they regularly clean the environment every one or two days. Therefore, the environment is not be too dirty, and the personal room is the part of self-maintenance. The rent is not too expensive, because I live in an area other than the city, so the price is acceptable. By the way, my friend lives in a student apartment in the city, which is a studio type. Her living environment is very good, there are many facilities available, and the toilet is not shared with others. Her room is very clean, I think it is because she also loves to clean the environment. But I asked her at that time that the rent was between 200 and 300 Australian dollars a week.(375字)

(四)自我成長

When I came here, the people I met were very friendly, whether they were Asian or Australian. I think that as long as you are polite, no one here will bully you. The biggest difficulty in coming to Brisbane is that you have to take care of everything in your life. You have to rely on yourself for meals, laundry and even daily life and rest, because there is no one to help you or remind you. It is not like there are people everywhere in Taiwan to help in class. Australia and other Western countries have to rely on their own initiative in education. Passivity will be difficult to learn here. Unless there are many Asians in the class, Westerners will not take the initiative to manage themselves. I can do my daily needs in time, and I did not often eat out here because it was expensive. So I often cooked it myself, which was also the biggest challenge when I came abroad. I try to cooked my own food and went to the supermarket to buy food and compared prices. These were all my growth here.(189字)

(五)大三出國建議

Some people may not be good at English and don’t want to go to a formal university course. I think I can recommend to come here for a language course. Because learning ability is very good, and I feel a lot of gains. Or, if you want to take a formal university course, those interested in business can also come to the University of Queensland. Otherwise, if the Department of Tourism needs an internship, I do not recommend it.At the University of Queensland, there are many activities to participate in, and you can also look at how the students of world-renowned universities study. This time I didn’t finish the university courses because of the epidemic, but I think the University of Queensland is really a good university and it is worth the juniors. Prices here are also cheaper than in the US, and may be a good choice. I also realized here that not only the students of Tamkang University, but also many Taiwanese came to Australia to study. Everyone supported and got together. I think it is a rare memory of coming to Australia. Although coming to Brisbane is different than Sydney or Melbourne, it is still worth a try.(204字)

(六)其他

There are many holidays in Australia and you can come to travel during the holidays. For example, I went to the resort island for water sports, or came to Sydney during the New Year. The countdown to New Year's Eve before coming to the Sydney Opera House has always been a must-have for many people, so I think it's worth a try. In addition, there are many extreme sports in Australia, I personally like it very much, so I came to skydiving there. The above are all memorable activities. In fact, there are many activities or places to go. You can explore by yourself. Many Australian brands are also much cheaper than Taiwan, as are discounts. It is also good to shop here for a good shopping.(127字)
