2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

My school for studying abroad is California State University Long Beach, located in Long Beach, California. I studied at California State University Long Beach from August 2019 to May 2020. The courses I took were Greek mythology, feminism, and fashion. In terms of language courses, I studied Japanese and Spanish. (48字)

(二)課程學習

My favorite class is fundamentals of spanish. It is a course opened for those who have not been taken any Spanish classes before, for beginners only. The first few classes would be about Spanish letters, basic expressions like “hello”, “how are you?”, and numbers as well. Students would be able to catch up with the lesson pretty well because there would be a lot of opportunities for them to speak up and practice in class. Spanish pronunciation is fairly easy to pronounce, and the use range is very wide. If you have studied Spanish, studying French and Italian will be very beneficial. Since both of these languages have evolved from Latin, they have much in common. If you have not studied Spanish at all, the Spanish 100 course is a lesson that isn't too burdensome and can provide a strong base for Spanish. Mrs Patricia is my teacher. Her style of teaching is genuinely comfortable and vibrant. The course material will include group discussion notes, communication exercises with classmates, and online courses for discussion with classmates about final projects. This way of learning makes Spanish progress very quick and when there are problems Miss Patricia is very happy to provide support and guidance. I think it's really worth learning Spanish in the United States , particularly California, because Spanish is a very common language in California. It would be easier for students to be familiar with Spanish in California because you would see Spanish literally everywhere, like on menus and signages. Furthermore, learning Spanish will a great assistance in the future at workplaces due to its worldwide usage. Spanish is the second in the world in the ranking of the number of first-language users, with over 500 million speakers. Besides English , French, and Arabic, Spanish is also the official language of most countries. (300字)

(三)生活環境

The campus of California State University Long Beach is very large, and its facilities are also very complete. The restaurants in the school offer a lot of food choices. The library and fitness center can also meet the needs of the students. The campus provides school bus as a commuting transportation which is very convenient for students who do not stay in dormitories. When going from Long Beach to other cities, buses can be used as transportation options. If you want to go to distant cities or interstate, Long Beach also has an airport that provides domestic flights, which is very convenient. In terms of accommodation, although the school provides student dormitories, I personally recommend choosing a host family. For example, my host family has a very wide social circle. There are often parties with friends or relatives, so I have the opportunity to participate in these parties. A different experience. For example, Halloween and Christmas are very important holidays in the eyes of Americans. Therefore, participating in the parties of these holidays is a great opportunity to experience American culture. In the process of participating in the party, I also had the opportunity to meet and talk with different Americans. The process of chatting with them not only strengthened their oral English ability, but also recognized different values. There are supermarkets and stores around the school to get the necessities of life and things needed for school courses. There are also many restaurants and fast-food shops, allowing students to have more choices in eating. Southern California has a relatively drier climate, with very hot summers and colder winters. It can be said that the climate is very pleasant. (279字)

(四)自我成長

Before coming to the United States, I rarely cooked for myself because it is very convenient to buy yourself relatively cheaper food in Asia. Not to mention there would be more food choices. After I came to the United States, I started to learn how to cook. When I first arrived in the United States, I often dined out. But then I found out that the choices were actually not that much, I tried to cook. The first thing you need to do is to go to the supermarket to buy ingredients. Since there was not a Chinese supermarket in my neighborhood, I needed to take a bus and went to another district to look for Asian supermarkets. Before getting ingredients in the supermarket, I had to look for recipes and listed the things I needed to get or else I would not know what to get. I tend to search some easy recipes on the internet or some YouTube video therefore it would be easier for me to follow the steps. I didn't know how to deal with the ingredients at the beginning, and it took me a lot of time just to figure out what to do with them. However, my cooking skills was better after a certain time. I am now proud to say that I could make a decent meal. I never thought that I would learn how to cook during the time for studying abroad in the United States. Nevertheless, I was also very happy to be independent in some way. (256字)

(五)大三出國建議

I would recommend you guys stepping out of your comfort zones which means that you have be brave and talk to foreigners. Do not be afraid of making mistakes. Just roll with it. As long as they can understand, hey would not judge, for sure.I can see a lot of Taiwanese students are more willing to hang out with people who can speak Chinese. As a matter of fact, you guys can speak Chinese in your hometown so it would be a waste of time and money to travel to an English-speaking country speaking your mother tongue. Try to avoid living with your classmates because there will be a higher chance for you guys would only communicate to each other. One more important thing: try not to select the same class with your classmates due to the same issue we discussed above. I can guarantee you guys would only team up with your peers and do group discussions among them. Please do remember you represent Tamkang University and your country, so behave in class. Please show up in class and hand in homework. Do your preparation and go through the reading materials before class. And most importantly, please do not speak Chinese with your friends in class, I meant it. That is really embarrassing for others who can understand Chinese to listen to the the whole conversation. If you don't mind wasting your own time and money, then please ignore what I just said and go ahead to do whatever you want to. Good luck guys. (257字)
