My favorite course In SFSU is Intro to The Study of Language. From the moment I stepped into the classroom, I was captivated by the intricacies and nuances of language. It wasn't just about learning grammar rules or vocabulary lists; it was about delving into the very essence of human communication. One of the most fascinating aspects of the course was exploring the diversity of languages spoken around the world. We delved into the rich tapestry of linguistic diversity, uncovering how different languages reflect unique cultural perspectives and worldviews. From tonal languages in East Asia to click consonants in Southern Africa, each language offered a window into the complexities of human expression. Moreover, studying linguistics opened my eyes to the remarkable capacity of the human mind to acquire and process language. I marveled at the innate language acquisition abilities of infants and the brain's plasticity in adapting to different linguistic structures. Understanding the cognitive mechanisms behind language acquisition shed light on the fundamental nature of human cognition. The course also deepened my appreciation for the role of language in shaping social interactions and identity. We explored how language can be used to assert power and control, as well as how it can serve as a vehicle for social change and empowerment. Through analyzing linguistic phenomena such as code-switching and linguistic prejudice, I gained insight into the complex interplay between language and society. Furthermore, studying linguistics honed my analytical skills and critical thinking abilities. I learned to deconstruct language structures, identify patterns, and draw connections across different linguistic phenomena. These skills proved invaluable not only in the realm of linguistics but also in various other academic disciplines and real-world contexts. Overall, Intro to The Study of Language has been a transformative journey that has deepened my understanding of the intricacies of human communication. (302字)

About my daily life, it's not as hard as I thought before I came to the States. The transportation was very easy, and the people were very friendly. And it's easy to buy groceries! If you're not good at cooking or finding the grocery store, you also could use food & grocery delivery to get what you want. But for my campus life, the course was so different from Taiwan's. During courses, students feel comfortable with public speaking and giving questions to professors. But I'm not a talkative person, so it's quite hard for me to speak in front of my classmates. I don't think I had a culture shock in San Francisco since it is a place that has a mix of cultures. I love the city's vibe and the people. Everywhere you go, you can see people from different backgrounds, which makes me feel welcomed and accepted. However, adjusting to the academic environment was a bit challenging. The emphasis on class participation and public speaking was something I wasn't used to. But with time, I've been working on building my confidence and overcoming my fear of speaking up in class. The professors and classmates have been supportive, which has helped me feel more comfortable expressing myself. Overall, while there have been some challenges, my experience in San Francisco has been overwhelmingly positive. I've been able to adapt to the daily routines and immerse myself in the vibrant culture of the city, making it feel like a second home.(249字)
