(一)基本資料

From August 2023 to May 2024, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) as a junior exchange student. During this time, I focused on courses related to literature and history, including Greek Mythology and English Drama. These classes allowed me to explore topics I’m passionate about while also improving my understanding of Western culture and storytelling. My professors played a pivotal role in this journey, always encouraging me to dig deeper into the material, which enhanced my critical thinking skills.(87字)

Among all the courses I took, Greek Mythology was my favorite. The professor was engaging and creative, turning each lecture into a vivid story that brought ancient myths to life. One of the most unique aspects of this class was the assignments. For instance, we were tasked with writing our own mythological stories, which encouraged creativity and critical thinking. Additionally, the class partnered with the History Department for a field trip to the renowned Getty Villa. This museum specializes in ancient Greek and Roman art and culture, and it was an unforgettable experience. As part of the trip, we had the privilege of watching The Odyssey opera, a free event organized for students from five universities. The combination of classroom learning, hands-on projects, and cultural immersion made this course incredibly enriching. This dynamic approach to education allowed me to connect historical narratives with modern interpretations. Overall, my academic experience at CSULB was both challenging and rewarding, giving me new perspectives and skills that I can apply to my future studies. (170字)

Living on campus at CSULB was a memorable experience. I stayed in the university dorms and shared meals in the all-you-can-eat dining halls. The food options were diverse, and I loved the convenience of having everything taken care of. The campus itself was massive and filled with amenities. There was a free gym with a pool and hot tub, as well as recreational facilities like a bowling alley, billiard tables, and a game room. These spaces were perfect for unwinding after a day of classes. CSULB is known for its strong athletic programs, and I often attended sports events, which were free for students. The school also offered numerous clubs, and I joined the surf club, where I met talented surfers and learned new skills. The location of the university was another highlight. It was only an hour’s drive to the city and close to the beach, making it easy to plan weekend trips. Public transportation, including campus shuttles and nearby bus stops, made getting around convenient. Living near stores like Target added to the convenience. During Thanksgiving break, I went on a 10-day road trip with friends, traveling through California, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada. On weekends, we also explored cities like San Francisco and San Diego. Over winter break, I visited France to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a French exchange student I met at CSULB. These adventures taught me the value of making the most of my time abroad and experiencing new places. I discovered how to plan trips efficiently, manage a budget, and immerse myself in different cultures, which were all invaluable life lessons. (269字)

OOne of the most valuable aspects of studying abroad was the exposure to diverse cultures. At CSULB, people were incredibly friendly and supportive. It wasn’t uncommon to receive compliments from strangers about my outfit while walking around campus, which boosted my confidence and taught me to appreciate the little things. I also became more independent and comfortable expressing my opinions. Participating in discussions and collaborating with students from different cultural backgrounds helped me develop better communication skills. Through interacting with friends from around the world, I learned new languages, traditions, and perspectives that expanded my worldview. I also developed better problem-solving skills by navigating challenges such as balancing academic responsibilities with social and travel opportunities. (116字)

(五)大三出國建議

For future students planning to study abroad in their junior year, my advice is simple: don’t be afraid. Take your classes seriously, and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask—everyone is willing to help. Make the most of the resources available on campus, whether it’s academic support, recreational facilities, or cultural events. More importantly, use this opportunity to build connections with people from different countries. Learning about other cultures will not only broaden your horizons but also create lifelong memories. Lastly, take every chance to explore the local area and beyond. Whether it’s a short weekend trip or a long road trip, every experience will teach you something new. Studying at CSULB was a life-changing journey. It opened my eyes to the world, taught me invaluable lessons, and gave me memories that will last a lifetime. I learned to step out of my comfort zone and embrace every opportunity. If you’re thinking about studying abroad, go for it—you won’t regret it! (171字)
