(一)基本資料

School:ICMS City:Sydney 出國期間:2023/8/24~2024/8/25 修習課程: Bar and mixology, gastronomy, restaurant concept, introduction to tourism (13字)

(二)課程學習

The Bar and Mixology course was a really fun and interesting experience. I had the chance to learn how to make a variety of cocktails. We practiced important skills like shaking, stirring, and garnishing, which helped me understand how to create well-balanced drinks. It was exciting to experiment with different ingredients and get a feel for what works best in each cocktail. One of the best parts of the course was the field trip to Hunter Valley, a famous wine region. There, I learned all about how wine is made and the different types of wine they produce. I also got to try different wines and learn about how to pair them with food. It was fascinating to see the whole process of wine-making and to understand how the location and environment affect the taste of the wine. Overall, the course gave me great hands-on experience with cocktails and taught me a lot about wine. It was a perfect mix of practical skills and knowledge that I can definitely use in the future, whether working behind the bar or recommending wine to customers. I feel much more confident in my mixology skills and wine knowledge now.(196字)

(三)生活環境

The school is situated near Sydney, on Manly Beach. To get there, people need to take a ferry from downtown Sydney followed by a bus ride up the hill. However, the bus is often delayed, so it’s common to walk up the mountain, which takes at least 15 minutes. Despite the distance from the city center, students typically attend classes three days a week, with the remaining time dedicated to homework and visiting the city. Supermarkets and restaurants are conveniently located downhill from the school, making daily life easy. Manly Beach is also a beautiful spot to enjoy. The student dormitory is located within the school, making it very convenient for classes since the classrooms are just downstairs. The school provides meals, and washing machines and dryers are free of charge. However, there are a few downsides. First, the soundproofing in the dorm rooms is poor, which may be disturbing for people who prefer to sleep early. Second, the food provided by the school is often subpar, leaving my friends and me hungry at times, forcing us to head down the mountain to grab a bite. On the plus side, the school organizes various activities, such as parties and barbecues, providing plenty of opportunities to meet people from around the world. Sydney’s weather is quite pleasant. In winter, mornings and evenings can be chilly, but afternoons are warm thanks to the sun. Summer is not as humid as in Taipei, but the UV rays are strong in Australia, so sunscreen is essential.(253字)

(四)自我成長

Living in Australia hasn’t been a huge culture shock for me, as I grew up abroad and everything here feels quite familiar and comfortable. Australians are very friendly and open, and there’s not much discrimination based on being Asian. In fact, in Sydney, there are so many Asians that sometimes it feels like there are more of us than white people, which makes the city feel very multicultural. Sydney also feels quite safe— even as a woman, I don’t feel uncomfortable walking home alone at night, which is something I really appreciate. One of the things I love most is the teaching style in Australia. There are lots of opportunities for hands-on learning and field trips. Over the four months I’ve spent here, I’ve gained more practical knowledge than I did back in Taiwan. Overall, I really enjoy the learning environment and the people here in Australia. Life is relatively laid-back, and Australians are genuinely kind and welcoming. If you’re outgoing and engage with people, life in Sydney can be a really happy and fulfilling experience. (182字)

(五)大三出國建議

A quick tip for people who are going to study abroad is not to worry too much about your English or fitting in with the local community. Australians are very friendly, and whether you’re in school or at work, colleagues and classmates are very supportive and understanding. There’s no need to be afraid of not fitting in, as many older colleagues tend to look out for younger people, which makes it easier to integrate into both social and professional circles. Australia is a very diverse country, with people from all over the world, so you’ll have the chance to meet people from many different cultures. Making new friends is not only fun but can also be incredibly rewarding. Some of the people you meet might become very important in your life. There’s really no need to stress or worry too much—time will pass quickly, and by the end of your year, you’ll realize how enriching and fulfilling the experience has been. Take advantage of your time in Australia by exploring and discovering new places. The natural beauty here is breathtaking, and traveling can help you unwind and avoid unnecessary stress. It’s a rare and special opportunity to travel in a foreign country, so make sure you don’t miss it.(217字)
