(一)基本資料

During 08.2023 to 07.2024 I was exchanging in Paris, France and studied in Universite Paris Cite. Université Paris Cité was established in 2019 by the merger of the original Université Paris Descartes and Université Paris Diderot. It is one of the important institutions of higher education in France. The school is famous for its excellent scientific research strength, multi-disciplinary learning environment and international perspective, covering many fields such as medicine, science, humanities and social sciences, and is committed to cultivating globally competitive talents. Still, the city of Paris is famous for its profound cultural heritage, artistic atmosphere and academic atmosphere, which added rich learning resources and diverse experiences to my study abroad life. In terms of academics, I majored in English and American language and literature, and the course content covered English literary analysis, linguistic theory, etc. In addition, Université Paris Cité provides a highly international learning environment. I have the opportunity to cooperate and communicate with students from different countries, which enhances my cross-cultural understanding.(163字)

During exchange in Paris Cite, there are several courses was really interesting and full of fun such as languages, England sailing culture, and so on. Among those, my favorate course is French. In this course, our teacher delivered it all in French eventhough it was a A1 course. She used many funny activities help us to get more familier with each other, as well as having plenty of interaction to help us more understand French. Thanks to her, I realized the beauty of French and got some fun from this such a difficult language; until now, I still can remember that she said, French is like a music, when I speak in French. Besides French course, I got another interesting course called Sailing Culture in England. This is a very special course that there are no similar course in Tamkang University. In this course, we had to read a lot of materials in advance so that we can discuss with each other on course. The reason that I like this course is that we could learn about not only the history and knowledge of sailing, but also the pirates. More than that, we also went to the National Sailing Museum to have a trip. The interesting thing happeded during coureses is that some of teachers would suddently deliver it in French despite our courses should all be delivered in English. It is funny because not only one teacher did so but several different teachers was doning that. When it happened, I just felt funny and rediculous since this kind of situation always happened in delivering something important; then I would miss it. To sum up, I still loved the coureses in here, every teacher and classmates I met lighted up my academic life in Paris, and made my memories in France more colorful.(303字)

In our school, we get two campuses, and the main campus is in the 6 arrondissement. The features of two campuses are totally opposite. In main campus, it is full of history and decorated in acient style, which can be regarded as a museum. However, in the campus of my department, it features with an industrial style as well as a small park around it where just beside my dormitory. The best part is, we can have school cafeteria on the Seine River! My dormitory is located very well, there are a bus stop right in front of the door, a tramway behind, and metro station within 7 minutes by walk. More over, there are many shops, restaurants and supermarkets around the dormitory such as H&M, Sephora, Monoprix, Supermarche, and so on. Plus, the campus and my home are near togheter and along the Seine River, so it is suitable for us to have a walk after school. The weather in Paris is cold usually. There are 10 monthes in the weather of winter and rains a lot, so coat and boots are necessary items. However, unbrella is not everyone must use in rains. The main area I lived in is 13 arrondissement, so I often went to Jardin de Luxemburg which is near my home 20 minutes away by bus under the dormutory. Also, thanks to the convenient location, it is pretty easy to go to chateau de Versailles from my home; just need to walk 7 minutes to take RER C. Because eating out at Paris is not a cheap thing, usually need to cost at least 13 euros per meal at formal restaurant; we usually choose to have lunch in crous, the school cafeteria, on the Seine river.(285字)

(四)自我成長

During this year of living in Paris, the biggest thing I learned is that you must take the initiative to fight for and consult about your own rights. For example, for the housing subsidy provided by the French government, due to nationality issues, there is no way to check the progress of the subsidy amount online, and the government will not take the initiative to notify whether the application is successful or not. Therefore, at this time, take the initiative to make an appointment with the administrative agency, and it is very necessary to understand the actual situation. Moreover, sometimes moderate quarrels are also a very important skill. In terms of life and culture, it is the most rewarding part of my year living in Paris. During the week, whether they are office workers or students, French people always take an hour or two to go to a park or a cafe for a cup of coffee after lunch time to enjoy a short leisurely time in their busy life. Every weekend, Parisians will seize their Saturday time. You can see many Parisians leisurely drinking coffee and chatting on the roadside, and lazily basking in the sun and reading books in the park. Seeing that in their busy daily life, they can still maintain the laziness and leisurely style unique to Parisians. This made me reflect on my past compact attitude towards life in Taiwan. After completing my studies and returning to Taiwan, I hope to learn the attitude of Paris and enjoy the elegance and leisure of life amidst the busy pace of life. In terms of schools, teaching methods, teacher styles, and grading standards are very different from Taiwan. In France, although there are not many classes a week, sometimes there is not even one class a day, but this is precisely because in France, students usually need to use more time to preview class content in advance. The knowledge taught by teachers in the classroom only accounts for 20% of the total. The remaining 80% requires students to preview and study independently using the information provided by the teacher in advance. Students in Paris are also very independent and sit in the classroom 20 minutes before class and wait. In terms of exams, most of the questions are about applying for a thesis or writing an essay. When the exam requires submitting an essay, I will take the initiative to ask the teacher what he really wants us to write. This is because usually French professors are in class. Although he would always smile and tell us that he did a great job and wrote well, in the final exam, the scores were always not as good as expected. Although it may be because the course content and depth are the same as those in Taiwan, but according to my experience in one semester, French teachers always prefer students to take the initiative to ask. In this case, the suggestions they give will be more sincere and appropriate. Therefore, in the next semester, I became more proactive in asking questions. This was also an alternative growth in my academic performance.(520字)

(五)大三出國建議

After confirming that I had successfully chosen to go to Paris for exchange, I really checked a lot of information online and did a lot of homework, including bank account opening, telecommunications options, student health insurance, etc. Since I went to France for the first time in my life, and it was not just a short-term trip but a real life for a year, I did a lot of research on many administrative terms and procedures. I really felt very overwhelmed at first, because French administration is very cumbersome and complicated. A simple thing needs to be broken down in steps, and then they are all interconnected, so I really put a lot of effort into clarifying everything. However, because of this, after actually arriving in Paris, I was able to handle the procedures necessary for daily life in an orderly manner. Moreover, because everything required me to look up information and go through the procedures myself, I became more familiar with and understood French social terms and administrative processes. So, if possible, it worth to do some research and clerify terms before departure and learn some basic French so that can chat with others quicker.(196字)

(六)其他

After leaving France and traveling around Europe in my spare time, I chose to travel alone most of the time. I also met many people from different countries during each journey and exchanged many cultural differences. This is another valuable experience I gained during my exchange in Paris. Facing various difficulties encountered during the journey, finding ways to successfully resolve the current difficulties also gave me a sense of accomplishment on my own and the ability to learn to solve problems in different dilemmas. I am very glad that I chose a European country and successfully came to Paris for exchange. If there is another opportunity, I will not hesitate to choose Paris as my next study abroad place.(119字)
