Reflecting on a Year of Studying Abroad: From Taiwan to Poland As I look back on my journey of studying abroad from Taiwan to Poland, I deeply feel the profound impact this experience has had on my personal growth. This year has been more than just an academic challenge—it has been a journey of cultural adaptation, inner growth, and self-exploration. First Arrival in Poland: Cultural Shock When I first arrived in Poland, I was filled with countless expectations and curiosity about this Eastern European country. The streets of Warsaw are ancient and beautiful, and whether it’s the historical architecture or the modern facilities, they all conveyed the unique charm of this city. Unlike Taiwan’s tropical climate, Poland’s winters are cold and long, which posed a significant challenge for me. Although the arrival of the first snow was exciting, I had to adapt to the frigid weather. Academic Challenges Poland’s education system differs greatly from Taiwan’s. In Taiwan, I was accustomed to exam-focused learning, whereas in Poland, the emphasis was on classroom discussions and hands-on practices. I had to adapt to this entirely new learning model, which required me to improve my self-learning abilities and enhance collaboration with classmates. The professors encouraged us to actively participate in discussions and emphasized the cultivation of critical thinking. This approach gradually taught me how to think independently and improved my academic abilities. Language Challenges The primary language in Poland is Polish, not English. Although there were no difficulties in academic settings where English was used, daily life, such as shopping or communicating with locals, was a challenge. Yet, I thoroughly enjoyed the process. When I gradually managed to say a few phrases and be understood, I felt a great sense of achievement. Learning a few sentences also helped me build a stronger sense of connection with the locals. Cultural Integration and Making Friends Being in Europe for the first time, I realized that many cultural aspects were different from Asia. However, the most challenging part for me was adapting to the dietary culture. Although I enjoyed tasting many local delicacies, I still missed the flavors of Taiwan the most. During my exchange period in Poland, I benefited greatly from making friends with classmates from different countries and locals. Although cultural differences sometimes led to misunderstandings, these experiences helped me understand the background and values of different cultures more deeply. Besides Poland, I also seized the opportunity to visit other countries, which not only expanded my social circle but also enriched my understanding of European society. Conclusion Summing up my year of studying abroad in Poland, I deeply feel the profound impact this journey has had on my personal growth and academic development. I not only improved my language skills and adapted to a different learning style but also enhanced my understanding and respect for diverse cultures. This experience taught me that studying abroad is not just about gaining knowledge; it’s also a process of self-discovery and broadening one’s horizons. I look forward to integrating these experiences into my life and continuing to explore and grow in different fields in the future.(525字)

the most favorite course is "Current Issues in Tourism." What makes this course stand out for me is the innovative approach the professor takes in teaching. Instead of strictly following a pre-set curriculum, the professor allows us, the students, to choose the topics that interest us the most. This flexibility ensures that the content we engage with is not only relevant but also exciting for us. Moreover, the teaching style of this course is discussion-based rather than relying solely on lectures. Instead of the professor merely presenting prepared materials, she creates a dynamic learning environment where students actively participate, share their thoughts, and engage in meaningful debates. Through these discussions, I have gained a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives on various tourism-related issues. It is fascinating to hear different viewpoints, especially those influenced by my classmates' unique cultural backgrounds. Sometimes, the ideas or opinions they share completely surprise me because they reflect values or approaches I had never considered before. These moments are incredibly eye-opening and help me broaden my understanding of global tourism dynamics. The professor also contributes valuable insights during our discussions, providing us with thought-provoking ideas and professional knowledge. This interactive approach helps me learn in a way that feels natural and engaging. I have discovered that learning is much more effective when it is a shared process rather than a one-sided delivery of information. Overall, "Current Issues in Tourism" has been a transformative course for me. The collaborative environment, exposure to diverse perspectives, and opportunity to explore topics that truly interest me have made it an enriching experience. It has not only enhanced my knowledge of tourism but also sharpened my critical thinking skills and cultural awareness, which I believe are invaluable in today’s interconnected world.(291字)

My friends and I rent an apartment in the city center, making transportation very convenient. There are a few Asian restaurants nearby, which are great for when we crave familiar flavors. Additionally, there’s a supermarket and a shopping mall within walking distance, so we never have to go far to get groceries or other necessities. The weather in Poland is generally good, but it turns cold and starts snowing around October and November. It’s also very dry during these months, so proper skincare becomes essential. I plan to stock up on moisturizing lotions to protect my skin from the harsh weather. Our apartment is also located close to the main campus, which is just two stops away by MRT. This makes commuting to classes quick and hassle-free. The campus itself is well-maintained, with good facilities and a pleasant environment that’s conducive to studying. They conduct regular maintenance to ensure everything remains in top condition, which I really appreciate. Another highlight is that the old town is near the campus. This area is not only rich in history and culture but also convenient for shopping and dining. It’s the perfect place to explore after classes or on weekends. Overall, our location offers the best of both worlds – convenience and accessibility. It’s a great setup that enhances both our studies and our lifestyle in Poland.(228字)

This year in Poland has been a transformative experience, filled with academic, cultural, and personal challenges. Living in a foreign country pushed me far beyond my comfort zone, offering countless opportunities for self-reflection and growth. Being away from home gave me the chance to explore my true interests and goals, and I discovered a strong passion for travel, history, and cross-cultural communication. These experiences broadened my horizons and deepened my appreciation for diversity. At the same time, they allowed me to better understand my strengths and identify areas for improvement, setting a foundation for future growth. Living alone in a foreign country was both challenging and rewarding. I had to learn how to manage myself and solve problems independently. From navigating the process of finding suitable accommodation and handling visa requirements to managing my daily life, each challenge contributed to my personal development. These experiences taught me to be resourceful, resilient, and self-reliant. Overcoming these obstacles brought a sense of accomplishment and boosted my confidence. I now approach difficulties with a more positive attitude and a problem-solving mindset. This year has been a journey of self-discovery and resilience, where I not only adapted to new environments but also grew into a more capable and independent individual.
